Good news for Italian graduates:
According to a survey conducted by Almalaurea on approximately 300,000 graduates from 78 universities in 2023, the average final degree mark stands at 104 out of 110, a figure that continues to rise.
Compared to the previous university system, the average age at graduation has also significantly decreased. Among recent graduates, however, there is a slight drop in employment rates: one year after graduation, the employment rate is 74.1% for first-level graduates and 75.7% for second-level graduates, down by 1.3% and 1.4% respectively compared to 2022. Five years after graduation, the trend reverses: 93.6% of first-level graduates are employed, the highest figure recorded in the last decade (+1.5% compared to 2022). The employment rate for second-level graduates five years after graduation shows a slight decrease, at 88.2%, down by 0.5% compared to 2022.

The survey also notes that these employment rates remain in line with pre-pandemic levels, and reflect a changing attitude among new graduates, who appear less willing to accept underpaid jobs or roles unrelated to their field of study.
The report also examines employment by field of study: the highest employment rates (above 90%) are found in industrial and information engineering, architecture and civil engineering, as well as in medical-healthcare, pharmaceutical, and economics disciplines. Internships and study abroad experiences continue to be strong assets when it comes to improving employment prospects.

Founded in 1994 by Professor Andrea Cammelli, Almalaurea originated as an experimental project of the Statistical Observatory of the University of Bologna, initially launched as a database of graduates' CVs. Since 2005, Almalaurea has relied on Antherica's services for its online communications: our applications provide the Consortium with the statistical data infrastructure that is then processed to produce the annual reports on graduate employment conditions.
